Where It Began

Global Messenger Service began with a young couple who said yes. Jack and Sherry Harris entered full-time ministry in 1976, and before long God stirred in them a calling that would carry them around the world: to give their lives reaching the nations with the Gospel as missionaries.

From 1980 to 1982, Jack attended Bible college. Upon graduation, he and Sherry took their first international trip to Mexico. More trips to Mexico followed, then Guatemala, then India. And in India, something took hold.

(1985–1992)

Living Among the People

In 1985, Jack and Sherry moved to India, where they lived and ministered for several years before relocating to Malaysia. Those years on the field shaped everything GMS would become. They learned that lasting change doesn't come from passing through; it comes from building relationships, trusting local leaders, and showing up for people in their hardest moments.

In 1992, Jack and Sherry brought their family and their ministry home to St. Louis. From there, they continue the work God gave them from the beginning:

  1. Reach unreached people with the Gospel.
  2. Train leaders in other nations to reach their own people.
  3. Rally churches and believers in America to the cause of world evangelism.

Preaching to the Multitudes

Over the years, GMS has held more than 200 crusades in nations including India, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Kenya, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, Thailand, Mexico, and Brazil. The Gospel has been preached to millions, and tens of thousands have given their lives to Jesus.

Jack's ministry has never been limited to pulpits and stadiums. It has taken him from remote villages to urban slums, from the headhunters of Borneo to outlaw bikers at rallies around the world. Wherever people are, Jack goes, often on the back of his Harley.
